Death and illness are central to Plowman's art and his sentimentality for cardiac health is understandable from his days in hospital recovering from heart surgery. Skulls, hospital scenes, hearts and Frida are among the images in his latest body of work.
Nic is a resident artist at Jugglers Art Space, an artist run initiative in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley, where kids in school uniforms train up to be the future of Australian aerosol art - Jugglers conveniently doubles as a retail supplier of spray paint.
Upstairs in his studio, an eclectic range of oils, sketches and life drawings circle this growing artist whose work made him a finalist for the Brett Whitely Travel Scholarship and he has since been exhibited at the Brisbane Powerhouse. Working with his own experiences of ill health, his images are intense, disjunctive, and sometimes feel like they convey a whole chunk of time - true to any memory of suffering - yet they are beautiful.
His next project is about maniacal geniuses, the collision course of the fated traits, talent and madness.
